My Name: Marti Michaud Title: Inter-Library Loan Librarian What is my job at the library? Along with several other staff members, I search for and send out Billerica items that have been requested by patrons in other libraries, and I unpack and process items from other libraries that Billerica patrons have requested. I will also request materials from libraries all over the country if they are not available locally. I also work at the reference desk and select the new fiction. How long have I worked at the library? 22 years What is my favorite part of the job? I enjoy interacting with the patrons and helping them locate the information they need. I also like reading about and selecting new books for the collection. What do I like to read? I mostly read fiction, particularly so-called “women’s commercial fiction,” with an occasional non- fiction book thrown in for variety. What is my favorite book? I’ve enjoyed too many books over the years to pick a favorite, and my taste has changed. But recently I’ve enjoyed “The Kite Runner” and “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.” What is my favorite movie? Again I don’t have a favorite, but I’m partial to silly, escapist romantic comedies. Other than reading what do I like to do when I'm not working? I enjoy spending time with friends and family, and my husband and I travel a lot. We’ll be taking a tour of China next month. I also volunteer with the Chelmsford Friends of the Library, working on their book sale and serving as membership chair. What is the most interesting fact about me? From the time I graduated from high school it took me 18 years and three colleges to earn a B.A, but it’s the best thing I ever did. |
