[Spying on You]

Who's Watching You on the Internet?
Internet Tracking and what you can do about it.

It happens every time you go on the Internet. They're out there and they're watching you, tracking you. They know things about you. They do things to you based on what they see you do and where they see you go. The average person has no idea that this is happening or the degree to which they are tracked.

On Wednesday, September 22, 2010, from 10:30-Noon and 7pm-8:30, the Billerica Public Library will present a program on what's happening and what you can do to protect yourself. Hosted and guided by long-time Internet Technologist, Jim Keenan, you will see live demonstrations and get down-to-earth, easy to understand, practical advice on steps you can take to defeat the trackers and limit your exposure.

(Participants who own laptops are free to bring them so that they can check their machines "live" during the program.)

Sign-up not required.

Taking Stock: Survey Coming Your Way on September 13, 2010

[Clip Board]

All organizations need to pause on a regular basis to look around and see where they are, what they need, how well they are meeting their mission and what course they should be taking in the future.

A former employer of mine used to say, "Good results without good planning, come from good luck." Here at the Billerica Public Library, we do not want to leave our future to good luck so we are developing a new 5 Year Strategic Plan to give us direction in formulating our goals to serve the library community over the longer term.

As part of our need assessment, we will be conducting a patron survey beginning on September 13, 2010. This is your opportunity to give us feedback by sharing your thoughts about our programs, services, facilities, and staff. Please take the time to answer the survey honestly and help us shape the future of library service in Billerica.

The survey will be available online through this website as well as in printed format at the library and at Town Hall.

Watch for it on September 13th and take part in the planning process! If you complete the survey and give us your name and contact information, we will enter your name in a drawing to win a Kindle electronic reader!
